Monday 13th July – Grand Harbour, Malta - Siracusa (Syracuse), Sicily

Today we said farewell to Malta and resumed our tour of the Med. 

 

At 06.30 we headed out of Grand Harbour and northwards across the Sicily Strait once again.  With no wind we motored across, avoiding the large shipping that has made a nuisance of itself each time we have crossed.

 

When we reached the south east corner of Sicily, the wind filled in slightly from behind and we were able to sail along on the genoa at around 4-5 knots.  By nightfall (9pm) we were about 8 miles off Siracusa and the wind was dropping off.  We decided to go in for the night. 

 

We motored in and anchored in the dark.  Can’t tell you how we have done until tomorrow and we see where we are (however, from our position, we think we are not far from our usual spot).
