Monday 17th September – Baiona

This morning we arose late after our nocturnal arrival in Baiona.  We arrived safe and pretty much dry having just about managed to skirt round the thunderstorms – we had a slight drizzle on our approach to the marina but other than that managed to avoid the bad weather. I would definitely recommend radar as it helps show the thunder clouds as well as other boats!  Interestingly, we also did quite well finding this marina as it is new and isn’t on the charts we have yet (even though they are new); fortunately it is described in the pilot books.

Today was another overcast and foggy day with a bit of light drizzle in the afternoon before clearing a bit this evening.

The staff at the marina office were marvellous;  when I asked if we could move onto a finger berth as the wind is due to get up again (and to avoid the wash from the fishing boats) he said ‘Take your pick, I’ll send one of the guys down to give you a hand with the warps’ (travelling out of high season is making life very pleasant).  So, a dinghy turned up with one of the guys who helped pull us off the fairly tight berth where we were alongside and being blown on, and followed us round to a fabulous 15m finger berth.

The other couple that we arrived with this morning also moved round and are moored next to us – we both feel very comfortable here.  We are not sure, but we think their friends will now join them here.

After moving we took a walk into the very pretty town and walked along to the very impressive yacht club.  Think this one will be a dress up job and a chance for posh nosh.

Tonight we are having a lazy supper and an early night as we are both shattered after the excitement of last night
