Friday 28th November – Cagliari (We have a mouse)

It was a rough night and we didn’t sleep properly until gone 4am as the wind was so loud outside – luckily it started to abate a bit then.  A few times Richard was up to check on the weather and the boat.  At 3am it was blowing steadily at mid 40s – force 9.

Sadly we had the alarm set early as we were due at the dentist this morning to finish my treatment.  Bleary eyed we got up and checked the navigation equipment and saw that the wind had been up to an averaged max of 54 knots, making it the top end of storm force 10 – it certainly sounded like it too!

The morning was a bit quieter and so we made it off the boat and to the dentist; hopefully this is my last visit there… it is feeling better at the moment.  From town, we could see the swell running into the main harbour after last night’s storm, and spray breaking over the harbour wall.

After the dentist, we felt like staying ashore for a while and so we took a bus out to the shopping centre – well we actually went there via the university having stayed on the bus looking for one of the other superstores, but that’s another story.  We spent a few hours in the shopping centre browsing and buying supplies.

Richard managed to sneak into the bricolage (hardware store) so we now have some hose to stop the warps from chaffing on each other, and a mouse… ok, not the furry variety but a plastic line for running electrical cable through ducts.

We need to sort out the electric sockets in the saloon but to do so means running a new electric cable from one side of the boat to the other – there is a duct but no mouse line in it.  We have tried pushing a cable through but the existing cable in it is stopping it.  Hopefully now we have a solution!

Fortunately we managed to get back to the boat between showers.  Tonight the wind has started howling again – but not as much as last night so we hope to catch up on some sleep.
