Tuesday 19th August – Cala Blava, Mallorca (El Arenal)

After a peaceful night we had a quiet morning and then took the dinghy the one mile or so into El Arenal the town nearby, parking in the large marina.

For us this is one of those places to go and look at but not to stay.  As we wandered down the very long main drag, it was full of bars and restaurants and the beach was packed; part way along there was a platform with an incredibly large sound system set up on it, looking like it was getting ready for a major party.  Further along there was a massive bar complex with large screens on the wall.

We explored about half-way along the front before heading back.  After stopping at a Dutch café to rehydrate and for Richard to try the Dutch sausage that Peter had seen on the menu, we went and restocked at the supermarket.

On the way back to the marina the music had started and a number of people were jumping around singing as we wandered by with our shopping trolleys – made me feel about 80 and I didn’t even recognise the song.  Peter helped a bit by telling me it was a Dutch song.

It made the other touristy places we have been look rather pedestrian – there was simply nothing remotely Mallorcan or even Spanish to be found.  Still, we’ve seen it.

This evening we old folk are having a quiet night in!
