Tuesday 10th June – Isla Perdiguera, Mar Menor - Alicante

Today we awoke early to find that the strong wind and rain of the night before had passed through and the wind had dropped to NW F3.

We weighed anchor at 9am and headed for Tomás Maestre and the 10am bridge back out into the Med.

At first the wind was very light but there was still a relatively large swell from the previous strong winds though this was forecast to diminish during the day.

Early afternoon the wind gradually increased and we were able to sail, albeit a little off course as we were close hauled and sailing pretty much into the wind.  As we approached Isla de Tabarca we pulled in the genoa and motor sailed around the point, bringing us back on course.

After the point we were able to lay a course close-reaching to Alicante; the wind had increased to around 20 knots (F5) and we had to reef the sails, however, we were able to keep our course and we sailed along at between 8 and 8.5 knots, which is pretty fast for us.

The swell failed to reduce during the day, in fact it became a bit more lively in the afternoon winds so we now have a bit of salt across the decks.

We had a fabulous sail across the bay to Alicante where we arrived around 18.00.
