Saturday 11th August – Camaret sur Mer

We had another quiet, hot and sunny day – I did the washing, which takes all day with my small washing machine, Richard did the administration as we have the internet (I suspect he did some surfing too) and then tonight we cleaned the deck.

The marina is a bit busier tonight, we expect it is because it is a Saturday; the days don’t trigger with us any more.

A small interlude was provided this afternoon as Richard spotted a boat coming in that he recognised.  It was called Westernman, a Nigel Irens designed version of a 19th century pilot cutter, and belongs to Tom Cunliffe.  The nautical amongst you will recognise the name – he writes the Shell Channel Pilot and many articles for the sailing magazines and is pretty well known around our sailing area.

Anyway, after lunch, not backwards in coming forwards (me, any way), we trotted off to take a look and say hello.  Well, we were pleased we had popped round. Tom is very friendly and a really outstanding and courteous man (incredibly tall too); he insisted that we come on board and take a look around and we chatted about his and our travels for a while.  His boat is very solid – one would feel safe in her in any weather – the boat has lots of different compartments and feels really snug down below – he even has a wood burning stove on board.

Tom mentioned that his daughter, who is with him this trip, is fishing for mackerel, so it looks like there may still be mackerel out there for me to catch, so next time we’re out….

Tomorrow is our wedding anniversary and Richard has informed me it is not to be our Mackerel anniversary.
