Friday 14th December – Lagos

This morning we were all up at 5am to take Brian to Faro airport for his flight home.

On our way out of the marina, we applied some appropriate signage to Wandering Dragon advertising their new operational responsibilities as they took over the mantle of the ‘Lagos Navigator Net’ broadcasting today.  We think they appreciated it really.

Once we had delivered Brian safely to the airport for his reluctant return to ‘Blighty’, Richard and I decided to take a short look around Faro before coming home as it is the regional capital.

We arrived at the walled Cidade Velha (old town) by the small Doca da Recreio (small craft marina) at around 7.30am and wandered around the marina and then up to the ancient Sé (cathedral).  It was fantastic looking around at that time in the morning, just after dawn – it was just us, the storks on their nests on the rooftops, and one lady sweeping up the windfalls from the many orange trees in the cathedral square.

From Faro we continued along to Olhão where there is another marina we were interested in seeing and then we headed for home feeling that we were finished for the day and it was still early morning!

We spent a fair bit of the rest of the day unsuccessfully trying to sort out the fact that the local ATM machine underpaid me last night – the banks here apparently cannot help and after an expensive call to my bank in UK, they need me to call them back in the middle of next week once the amount is showing on my statement, they then have to send me a form to fill in and so the story goes.  What a nightmare – it’ll have cost me more than the shortfall by the time I have finished.

We have had a quiet night in this evening as we are both feeling shattered, and suspect we will be asleep before I finish this -  zzzzz.
