Friday 9th November – Lagos

This morning Richard fixed the oven again – I tested it for 20 minutes and it looks like it may be OK this time.

This afternoon we went with Peter and Carolla (Moonshadow) for a drive along the coast to Cabo São Vicente.  We stopped to see the views along the way - it is interesting to see the view from the land, looking out over the sea that we have sailed along – it looks a lot bigger from the cliff-tops.

Cabo São Vicente was windy and looking north, the sea was a bit choppy.  Unfortunately the lighthouse was not open to visitors but that hadn’t deterred the stall holders from setting up outside and trying to sell thick knitwear to all-comers.

On the return trip we stopped at the old fort at Enseada de Belixe and looked down at the anchorage below it – the water was very clear but it looked a bit rocky from where we were standing.  We then went along to Prince Henry the Navigator’s school on the Ponte de Sagres and wandered around the buildings, most too modern for Prince Henry’s time as much of it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1755.  The compass rose was still intact but lacking the N, S, E and W markers.

We arrived back in Lagos around 5pm and finished with coffee at a restaurant beside the marina.
