We are now back into sailing gear after our road trip interlude. This ended with a few days stay on board Silhouette in the La Coruna marina. This is a pleasant city with all the amenities you might need and a some sight seeing to boot.

The national heritage sight of Hercules Torre (see next photo) has some interesting 'sculptures'

As we left Coruna on the 2nd of September we had a good view of the lighthouse. They claim the Hercules Torre is the oldest Roman lighthouse which is still in use. It has obviously been repaired and rebuilt several times in its history. You can still see Roman walls and structures in the tower.

Next on the menu was the Spanish Rias (deep bays) as we started south towards Portugal. Each ria has its own character with numerous anchorages. Corme will always have fond memories for us as we were anchored within swimming distance from the lovely beach.

Don't worry, it is not always this cold. The evenings have been quite cool, while in the day the sun bakes you into t-shirt and shorts. This also affects the wind directions and strength. The prevailing wind blows during the night and morning (north-east) and then at around midday there is no wind. Late afternoon a strong sea breeze sets in. This makes sailing interesting/tricky or just plain frustrating.

Combarro  (the village we are now in) has an old part which is really picturesque - narrow lanes and houses built out of stone on a rocky outcrop. The main activities in this part of town are tapas restaurants (we sampled one of them for lunch today) and trinket shops (we managed to avoid them). We are in the marina overlooking the fishing harbour, which is a large port for unloading mussels. Every hour or so a vessel comes in which fills a big truck with mussels. The fishing industry (a lot of it farmed) is huge. The mussels and squid we had today for lunch was excellent! They obviously know how to get it right.

Adios!
