For 4 days, Kerry, Mum, Dad and I escaped the boat to go on a mini road trip around Northern Spain! We started the trip on the 25th August and we drove back to the boat the 29th.
Our first stop was at Santiago, where we visited the famous Cathedral de Santiago de Compostela, which holds the remains of St James. The room in which St James is held, is decorated from top to bottom in gold and jewels. The queue to see St James was so long that we decided not to see him.

In the town square we saw a mime artist dressed as Mahatma Ghandi and he gave us a small scroll when we gave him a Euro.
We also ate some tapas for dinner in a restaurant and bought a slice of Tarta de Santiago, a traditional cake dusted in icing sugar, apart from a cross in the middle.

After staying 1 night there, we drove to Las Medulas and visited the Roman gold mines. However, the mines had been dug so deep and so wide that they had formed the land and the mountains! We went for a walk to a large cave dug in the side of on of the mountains. It was huge and had a very loud echo!

Next, we drove to a new hotel in the Picos de Europa, called Hotel Rural Mestas. Mum and Dad had a different room to Kerry and I and the rooms were on separate floors!

The Picos is a dramatic mountain range near the north coast of Spain.
We went for a trek up the Picos Mountains, where we saw lots of cows and mountain goats. It was a steep climb, but they view at the end was amazing, so it was worth it!

After our mountain walk, we had a look at the caves where they make the famous cheese. Unfortunately, we had missed the tour, but on the bright side it was so smelly I don't know if I would have been able to enjoy the caves!

We then drove back to our hotel and stayed another night there and enjoyed the local tapas for dinner.

The next day we drove back to the boat and we hope to stay in La Coruna until Monday.
