Title: Plymouth to Falmouth

We woke to some unexpected sunshine, but it was short lived as it clouded over by 0745h when we left Barn Pool for Falmouth.  We had a pleasant and quiet night in Barn Pool and the best part was that we didn’t have to pay anything, quite a contrast to our previous two nights at Sutton.

Although all the weather forecasts have been confidently and consistently forecasting gale force 8, we had to motor all the way to Falmouth with less than 3kt true the whole way!  Rather than do the usual thing and head for a marina, flush with the success of the previous days adventure taking Stella up the river Tamar to Calstock, we decided to do the same in Falmouth and take the boat as far up the river as we dare, with the possibility of ending up in Truro.  So we gently motored up the River Fal and then up the Truro River until it got very shallow and narrow.  We didn’t quite make it to Truro as Mary sensibly decided that when the depth dropped to 2m it was time to turn back.

Falmouth

We’re now anchored off the wonderfully named ‘Maggoty Bank’ about half a mile up river from the King Harry ferry.  It’s another very beautiful and peaceful anchorage, but it rained heavily all  evening, so we haven’t had chance to enjoy it to the full.

Tomorrow we’re staying in Falmouth, and then we’ll take a view on when we’ll cross to France.
