Back in the Azores

We are back on board Pemandia in the Azores.

I flew out on Friday last week (8 July, our 38th Wedding Anniversary) and Emily and Susanna followed a day later (like Royalty, never travelling together!). The real reason was so that I could get the boat launched again before the others arrived and if there was a delay, it would be just me to stay in a hotel and if things were really bad, then I could ring and stop the others making an unnecessary journey. Also, the Saturday flight was quite a bit cheaper...

However all was well when I arrived. The work has been completed and to a very high standard. We were launched on time and I motored round to a marina berth.

Emily and Susanna had a much worse time of it. Their flight was late leaving Stanstead and then when they arrived over the Azores it was too foggy to land so they were diverted back to Lisbon more than 2 hrs way. Arriving there they were told they would be put up in a hotel (by now it was about 0200hrs) but no such luck, they were pushed and shoved around as only Ryal Air knows how to and worst of all, as they had to change terminals they could not keep the bottle of Isla Gin they had bought at Stanstead.

Anyway they arrived at about 1000 and were soon installed on board, had a brief sleep and extra caffeine to get them through the day.

It was a great celebration weekend in Ponta Delgada with a huge Fiesta and wonderful processions of livestock and floats. This continued on Saturday and Sunday so the girls got to see it as well as me. A meal ashore at 'Mercado Peixe' was as good as when we went there in May and of course the bonus was to join the celebrations when Portugal beat France at the very last minute to claim Euro 2016,

More to come soon.

Peter
