There are all sorts of opportunities for self improvement on this cruise. Earlier today I tried to combine two separate practical classes. One was on using a GoPro camera to take selfies and the other was using the sextant for elementary sun sights. The results of the first class record that I did well at the second but then spoiled it with a further selfie showing me working out the results of the sun sight with an app on my iPad rather than with old fashioned logarithm tables.

One class I gave a miss was the one on how to recover the end of the topping lift when it has come unshackled from the boom and is flying around out of reach. What a pity that class was not earlier in the day when my topping lift was doing exactly that.... I got it back with a certain amount of difficulty!!

So some classes are good, some are too late but others.....

I had been looking forward to the cooking classes which promised one to one sessions with one of the on board chefs. Of course the best chefs in the world are here, so if you have been wondering why your meal at the Oxo Tower or Le Gavroche was not quite up to the usual standard this week... Deciding that I did not wish to be sworn at by Gordon Ramsay or on the receiving end of Paul Holloway's sarcasm, I was delighted to catch a glimpse of Nigella. I really felt that I would get a lot out of a one to one with her. However when I asked I was told she was not on board so it must have been a reflection of me wearing my lifejacket that I saw and not Nigella at all.

Still the gardening classes sound interesting....
