We've been here almost a week. It has been fun to join forces with Meriva (Sue and Tristan) whom we met last autumn in Lanzarote. We have toured the island by bus, walked around the delightful lake in the caldera at Furnes, seen the bubbling fumeroles and even eaten the local volcano cooked stew....all supervised by our new friend and guide, Eduardo, who sailed up here in his own boat, having accompanied Meriva from Porto Santo.

It's also summer fiesta time and the streets of Ponta Delgado are alive with music and other entertainment, particularly at the weekend.

Yesterday, we attempted to hire a car, but they are rarer than hens teeth so we grabbed a taxi to visit the thermal pools at Caldera Vela close to the north coast of the island. And a very satisfying experience that was too....the water is tainted with iron oxides, so tastes metallic. The first pool we went in was only slightly warmer than a standard outdoor swimming pool, though it was fed by a warmish waterfall, but the second was a delightful 38 degrees....much more like it.

The Fastnet is on and I have been transfixed by the tracker on the yellowbrick website, when we can get internet. Sitting on Persephone in a very surgy marina, thinking of racing and second guessing the decisions we might make, were we taking part, is very addictive.

We are starting to think of our next port of call...will we visit St Marie, or straight to Portugal? Decisions, decisions.....meanwhile, how are they getting on in the Celtic Sea?
