After saying goodbye to Ena Vigo, we slipped our mooring in The Bight and gently made our way around the southern tip of Norman Island, to find the peace and tranquil anchorage at Benures Bay. This is an idyllic spot, with clear water, a sandy bottom and perfect shelter from the easterly wind. We anchored in 5m of water a couple of cables off the beach, in the company of just 3 other boats. The snorkelling in the north western corner of the bay is comparable to the delights we found in the Tobago Cays!

After a day of swimming and relaxing, watching the turtles and even a little hull bottom cleaning, we made contact with Win2Win, who were anchored in the busy spot at Trellis Bay, Beef Island....essentially at the end of the runway at Tortolas airport.

Soon, Lilian and Eltjo were swinging into Benures Bay, followed by Arcadia, with Marty and Heleen, and Blue Dream, with Hilda and Tom...who collectively made a credible Dutch task force to take over cruising supremacy in the bay.

Friday was Eltjos birthday. That meant cake and coffee for the whole assembly on board W2W, but before that, on Thursday, he and Lilian joined us for a quick sail down to Sopers Hole and back on Persephone.

After the coffees, we revisited the Caves for some snorkelling, then sailed down past Sopers Hole and through the little gap and across to Jost Van Dyke.

This weekend, the island is hosting the Foxys wooden boat regatta, so I am watching some of the racing just off Great Harbour as I write this.

W2W struggled with the holding here last night. Their lightweight aluminium anchor...a Danforth or similar, cannot handle gravel or stone on the bottom, so I have lent them our CQR kedge....though they took a mooring buoy last night. But at 30 US dollars a night, doing that too often can dent your (drinking) budget.

Karen and I visited the famous Foxys bar last night for a swift Painkiller before dinner....very nice.
