We had a wonderful sail up here from Statia. The later the season gets, it seems, the better the sailing!

A fine reach between the islands in 12 to 14 knots, then a flat spot in the lee of the volcano they call Mount Misery, followed by a light onshore breeze, and then a full on beat for the last 5 miles or so to Basse Terre.

We anchored close to the harbour entrance, with Chat Eau Bleu, the Australian yacht of Deb and Pete from Adelaide (is there anywhere else of note in Australia?) and went ashore to complete formalities. It was hot, so we reckoned we deserved a beer and after clearing in, found a street bar selling 3 beers for 5 US dollars. What's not to like?

As we were sipping the icy cool nectar, along came Deb and Pete, but they didn't see us at first, so Karen led the charm offensive and chased after them. Moments later we were settling into our 3rd or 4th round and contemplating an evening meal as it started to fall dark.

We found a really rather good indian restaurant, and the four of us enjoyed a splendid evening, with delicacies such as Railway Mutton on offer....basically a lamb curry, so who knows what the railway connotation is meant to imply?

The evening whizzed by, and we returned to our boats well past cruisers midnight...which is at just after 9....we stayed out until 10:30!!!!

Now off to restock the larder. Then to find a pleasant anchorage a little further south, settle in and await the arrival of Win2Win in a couple of days
