Persephone... Cruiser/Racer
Nigel & Karen Goodhew...

Today has been a lazy day. We shook out the reef in the main around noon UT and hoisted the spinnaker again at the same time. Fortunately, it seems bulletproof and undamaged after the adventure last night!

Lots more dolphins today, and interestingly, some other, larger beasts from the deep.  We cannot be sure, but think we saw some kind of whale this morning, a few feet from the starboard side of Persephone. It was about 4 to 5 metres long, and had pale or white fins and underbelly.

Then, this afternoon, we seemed to be being followed by another similar animal. It followed a couple of waves behind us, maybe 60 to 70 metres, so we could see it only as it surfaced to breathe, or as it coasted within a large wave.

We started to form the view that it might be especially interested in our towing generator propeller, and after a while, hauled it in.  The "whale" then passed us to starboard, showed us its white belly, and slipped away to the west.

We now have 875 miles to go. But the wind is light again and speed is down again this evening...here's to a quiet night with 15 knots!

All well...
