A casualty of our Atlantic crossing was FRED ("F"-ing Rediculous Electronic Device), who steers Persephone when we have other pressing things to do.  The sea state was simply too much for his ageing ram, and it stopped working more than 1500 miles out.

The lovely people at Regis Marine Electronics in Rodney Bay, were able to source a new part and in so doing, relieve us of a good deal of our hard earned drinking vouchers.

So with a new ram fitted, we decided to set up a sea trial, and set off to Martinique, only 25 miles away. A lovely sail, delightfully sunny and with 18 knots of wind, FRED acquitted himself, and we arrived in Anse Dufour in the mid afternoon on 19th December.

What a delight!  Clear water....we could see the anchor in 8 metres of water....snorkelling, swimming and an impromptu and makeshift dinner on board completed the picture of a Caribbean idyll.  We spent the night alone in the anchorage before setting off back to Rodney Bay. Twin objectives....to meet Anna Robson from her flight from London and to pay the bill from Regis.

And on Friday, Tim and Oli are arriving too!
