Jonny and Sue arrived by taxi from Inverness airport at 11.45 and following their induction and safety briefing we set off straight away.  As planned the heavy rain had ceased and we could see Loch Ness and even sail with the genoa for a couple of hours. This was so Janice could actually 'sail' rather than motor as we are trying to develop her sea legs.  There were patches of low cloud so our attention was focused on parts of mountains and plenty of them. The waters of Loch Ness were dark and uninviting - happily the only thing in them was Lucy's cap which was quickly retrieved with the boat hook following a U turn.

Fort Augustus is a lovely little place seemingly entirely focussed on the canal. Plenty of room to moor up and greeted by the lock keeper with all the information we needed. The staff of Scottish Canals were all cheery and helpful throughout actually. We sampled both pubs and decided on the Lock Inn for dinner as the barmaid was miserable in the Bothy. A good choice as the fish and chips (haddock from Buckie or more likely landed at Buckie from the Faroes) were outstanding.
