Friday 14th August 2015. 85.36nm. SE 3-4, 16.3 engine hours on our 26.75 hour passage as the wind died completely at Wick and we decided to motor on to Inverness through the night which was dry ahead of the forecast deluge.

We had a very sunny and scenic sail through Calf and Eday Sounds into the Stronsay Firth then east to clear the Pentland Skerries by 5 miles. We had purchased a John Grisham audiobook for passage entertainment and as we listened it became clear it was intended for kids. We listened anyway and it passed the time. We reached Wick at 2000 and resorted to the engine. The headwind was very light and the sea was almost flat calm. Had the sky cleared to allow meteor spotting that would have been perfect (Frans only saw 4) but it was not to be. Sarah got up at 0200 so Frans could get some sleep and we arrived in the Caledonian Canal (yes again - 3rd year running) as soon as it opened at 0900.

By 1100 Sarah was at the dentist and we decided to stay until Monday morning so she can have another canal experience - root canal this time.
