| Sunday 24th May 2015. W3-5, misty, cold and wet wet wet. 12 hours, 36.1nm. 3.2 engine hours. Decision time this morning as to whether we go around Cape Wrath or wimp out and go through the canal. The forecast is for NW and W up to F6 with bands of rain so although the wind is OK the rain will be dreary and there may be some swell. Lucy and Pete decided to head north to join us in the canal so that will be fun - canal it is. The westerly was blasting down the Sound of Mull as we headed north past the opening as if to confirm our decision - it would have been very unpleasant trying to reach Tobermory. We tried the chute again when the wind permitted. Mixed success with some unfurls and some tangles. In between rain showers we saw lots of bluebells. Very unexpected to see tiny rocky islands covered in bluebells. Plenty of snow capped mountains which we also didn’t expect. Frans unpacked his crampons before we set off. We made the sea lock at 1200 and had time for a quick trip to the Co-op before we climbed Neptune’s ladder and moored up by 1700. We were totally soaked and sorry to hear our guests were not coming as Lucy has Pete plague now. Sarah woke up with it the next day too and Frans has been unwell for about 10 days now.
