| Wednesday 6th August 2014. SSW 3 to start increasing to SW 6, Sunny. 24.4nm, 2.2 Engine hours. We awoke to find the anchorage completely still with the surrounding rocky shore reflected in the mirror like surface. So pretty we didn’t want to leave but conscious we have to travel north to be ready to cross to Scotland when the wind is favourable. As it turned out we were most anxious to leave as we discovered the holding tank had been left set to ‘overboard’ by mistake. We motored inshore past the lovely old fishing/piloting town of Lyngør which covers four little islands and is Norway’s own Venice apparently. We were keen to see the scenery of the islands and so we stayed inshore of Askerøya and Sandøya. As there was wind we decided to head out to sea in the hope we could make better speed down the coast. As it turned out the wind was not favourable and there was still a decent swell making passage slow as we had to tack. The engine would not pick up water again so Frans had to prime the system manually to release the apparent air lock before we could motor in to anchor. The approach from the open sea was tricky and because we knew the engine would most likely not pick up due to the heavy sea we tacked in through the rocks to gain shelter before priming could take place. Norway’s Venice… only transport is by boat. |
