Title: Day 9

Lat 14:47.6S Long 28:30.3W
Still plugging along relieved that we have had a couple of days of good
winds and have been able to clock up some miles. The boat has been rocking
from side to side in big sweeping arcs which makes sleeping difficult and
everything rattles and slides around. Occasionally a squall develops which
we first see on the horizon as a dark cloud reaching down to the sea, and
gradually we notice the sea building, the wind changing and the cloud moving
closer. As it arrives rain starts and the wind build up for while and then
it passes and all back to normal. At night the only warning is the radar.
Last night Sussanne woke me at 0130. The radar showed us in the middle of a
squall, heavy rain and 35 knots of wind. The boat was tearing through the
water into the blackest night, but all she needed was reassurance, she had
everything under control. What a good sailor she has turned out to be. I'm
so proud of her. By the time Tom appeared on deck for his 0200 watch winds
had calmed and we continued on making rolly but good progress towards
Salvador.....now just 600 miles away.
