Title: Day 8

Lat 29:02.4S Long 038:26.9E
We're all feeling tired. Overcast skies and drizzle and big rolly seas. Lee
cloths tied up to stop us falling out of the bunk and so uncomfortable that
no one managed much sleep. Sussanne abandoned her bunk and came up into the
cockpit at midnight, two hours early and I felt I ended up with bruised
shoulders from the constant rolling from one side to the other. Oliver of
course managed to sleep. We sat below for most of the day in the dry,
peeking outside every so often to make sure we weren't about to be consumed
by an oil tanker or similar. And then Sussanne had a brainwave. Why not
watch a movie. We ended up watching two episodes of Downton Abbey which
seemed completely bizarre in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
We are gauging our speed to arrive at the Agulhas current 50 miles off the
coast of Africa just as a strong southerly winds pass. We don't want to get
it wrong. Our pilot book talks about freak waves of up to 20 meters high
when the wind and current oppose, enough to damage even large commercial
ships. Despite the weather Oliver's enthusiasm for fishing was rewarded and
he landed a 7 Kg tuna this afternoon. I'm preparing the appetizer of tuna
sashimi and he's doing the main course of grilled tuna steaks, with sesame
oil.
Photos show dawn breaking out and Oliver fishing.
