They would not let us on the airplane to begin with as we did not have a ticket onward to a country that we were allowed in without a visa i.e. U.K.  We had to buy tickets to UK and get them refunded – lost $375 in the process.  Had the nail scissors and other sharp implements in the manicure set, that A & S gave me for Christmas, confiscated and destroyed!  Arrived at 0050 and then spent hour and a half in long queue going through customs and immigration. Had to have our walking boots inspected for seeds – another queue.  Finally left airport at 0230 and spent night in motel near airport.  Picked up campervan at 1030 and drove around trying to find a supermarket.  In our search for car parking space, found a pub for lunch.  Paul very happy as proper bitter on sale.  It turned out to be a German pub celebrating Oktoberfest (although Paul said finished by now).  I had the sausage and very greasy chips.  Pub was called the Pedal Pusher – lots of bicycles in Christchurch at one time, as anywhere else one assumes.
