Postcard from Cascais, Portugal

The fog finally cleared late on Saturday evening, it was so cold we had the
heater on! Early Sunday morning we headed south for Figuera de Foz. This
was a long days sail but part of this was done under spinnaker. We arrived
in Figuera after dark and in a thunder storm! What has happened to the
weather - two days are never the same. Monday morning (Chris' birthday) was
fine and sunny so after a quick trip to the covered market to buy birthday
supper we headed out to sea again, destination Navare. Wind was SW for a
while so tacked along the coast until it fell light at teatime. During the
day various emails came from home wishing Chris a Happy Birthday, together
with the cards brought from home. Safely tied up in Navare we celebrated
with champagne and langoustine. We then took a walk to the nearby fish quay
to watch the sardine boats unloading their catch and the bigger boats with a
variety of fish - we stayed to see the auction, fascinating. Spent the
following day there, the town being about a mile from the harbour but after
an excellent fish supper in a most unlikely looking restaurant, recommended
by the English harbour master, we were glad of the walk. We are now in
Cascais. Took the train to Lisbon yesterday and had a good days sightseeing.
We are now the proud owners of a new dinghy and outboard. Most of the boats
we are meeting are also heading for the Caribbean so no doubt will keep
bumping into them (not literally we hope). We are heading south tomorrow
before we get harbour rot.
