OOJAH's AWESOME ODYSSEY

After 2,700 miles and 5 months (20 miles a day, & a horrifying 250 engine hours which suggests we have motored half the way) we're finally here in Las Palmas for the start of the ARC in 15 days time. We can hardly remember the early parts of the voyage & it has become a way of life in itself. We had a vigorous sail up from San Miguel yesterday but Oojah really flew perhaps aware that she had 2 weeks off on arrival - not so for us, with provisioning & boat checks &, having spread out over the whole 40' of boat, we now have to sqeeze up & make room for Tim, Karen, Carl & Griffin, our crew for the crossing. Our actual arrival was somewhat of an anticlimax as we've been squeezed into a very tight space & the fleet is scattered round the marina rather than being all together as was the case 10 years ago. Of the 105 yachts on our pontoon only 6 are doing the ARC which is a great shame as the main reason for entering the ARC is social. We will have to throw ourselves into the 'Happy Hour Calendar of events' that's on offer! The weather remains disappointing so we'll have to hope it all comes together on the day.
