Hi all,

Nerves are building after the uncomfortable passage from Gran Canaria to Tenerife so there was some trepidation about crossing from Tenerife to the lovely island of Gomera. The Canaries, as most of the Atlantic islands, are high volcanic islands sticking up out of very deep water - it's 2,000 metres deep just a mile off the coast here. Mt Tiede on Tenerife is the highest mountain in Spain at 3,717m or nearly 12,000ft & strangely enough they used to be part of the continent of Africa. Between the 7 islands are wind acceleration zones that can double the forecast wind & make for very uncomfortable conditions. Anyway we got here without difficulty but very bad weather is forecast for later this week so we're staying put for the time being. It's been overcast with occasional rain & more is forecast. The marina is very comfortable and very sociable & with a bit of time available we're beginning to prepare for THE CROSSING.
