We set off for Barbate our last night in Spain with gusto - close reaching through the sunshine at almost 8 knots with the breeze just a little above forecast. 3 hours later with over 20 miles under our belts & just 9 short of Cape Trafalgar, which is itself just North of Barbate the headwind rose to nearly 30 kts (force 7) & even with both reefs in we were overpowered. Oojah is not easy to handle in these conditions & we were relieved to get the main down to turn her round & retreat back to Cadiz. We then made a bit of a pigs ear berthing in the strong wind which left us both dispirited. It looks as if we'll be here for a day or two as the forecast is not promising but there are worse places to be stuck. It looks like a retail day tomorrow!
