OOJAH's AWESOME ODYSSEY

We sailed another 200nm leg ENE to Tallinn this time with a good following wind, although the autopilot problem has re appeared. We arrived in a thunderstorm but with help from ashore it all worked out. Very commendably the Raymarine engineer came down that afternoon & after two 2 hour visits checking, updating & resetting everything pronounced it ok  - we await the next quartering sea with our fingers crossed.

It was lovely to see the town buzzing after Estonia’s tortured history - founded by Denmark in 1219, sold to the teutonic knights in 1346, ceded to Sweden in 1582, & lost to Russia until 1918 when it finally became independent. Then during the second world war it was annexed by the USSR in 1940, occupied by Germany until 1944, & then annexed again by the USSR until 1991. Phew …
The old town is very attractive & we spent a couple of days wandering round the museum, old churches, the walls & the odd hostelry.

We are now provisioning & preparing for the 185nm sail to St Petersburg with a little apprehension about the bureaucracy but at least the forecast is good.

with love, Peter & Christene
