Hi all,

The 30 mile wide & deep Penobscot Bay is amongst the jewels of the mid Maine coast. From Portland North the coast is a mass of inlets filled with hundreds of islands. The shore line is rocky with a tidal range of over 10' & the backdrop of wooded hills makes it all very attractive. From Boothbay we had to go back to Portland for new batteries (ouch), & then 'down East' via Damariscove, a tiny remote island with a minuscule keyhole shaped anchorage, to Rockland in the Penobscot Bay. Rockport a few miles North was very cute. Then to Camden, a pretty harbour & a hub for sailors. Old wooden trading schooners ply in & out for the tourists & this small town was alive & busy. We staggered up Mt Battie overlooking the town, the first time we've been above sea level since we got off the plane, & then put the calories back in the Waterfront Inn!
