OOJAH's AWESOME ODYSSEY

We enjoyed our stay at Culebra, not the least because we met some nice people there, but it seemed too early to stop for Christmas so we sailed South to another of the Spanish Virgin Isles, Vieques. We moored off Esperanza on the South coast. Vieques's main claim to fame was many years of use as a bombing range by the US military, but they have now gone, leaving only the risk of unexploded ordinance. Apart from a few 'backpacker' bars there was not a lot there so the next day we sailed on downwind to Puerto Rico itself. The water has also been very cloudy, possibly due to generally strong wind & associated swell, which spoils the swimming. Salinas, on the South coast, is a very sheltered anchorage with plenty of local boats but nobody is around - we do seem to be right off the beaten track which sets us a bit of a challenge for the festive season. However the Christmas decks are going up.

Love to all,

Peter & Christene
