OOJAH's AWESOME ODYSSEY

The 90nm passage from Saba to the Virgin Isles should have presented no problems but we we're hit by a series of heavy squalls, the first of which completely overwhelmed the autopilot. As I was diving for the wheel to recover the situation the mainsail jibed & the main sheet threw me across the cockpit onto a winch leaving me with severe internal bruising & in great pain. Fortunately there don't appear to be any breaks, & the weather eased so we made The Virgin Isles with no further drama but I don't think we'll be moving on for a while. For the time being we're holed up in Maho Bay, a beautiful & very sheltered anchorage on the North coast of St Johns. Worse things can happen - there's no bar on the beach but as I can't really get into the dinghy it doesn't matter! Plenty of time to contemplate how to create a 3rd reef on a rig only designed for 2.

With love,
