Great activity today as the skipper thought it would be a good idea to hoist the spinaker. An hour or so later after several aborted hoists and ropes wrapped round sheets and halyards round necks we are being pulled urgently along by the spinaker. Speed may be marginally greater and motion slightly more roly but course more accurate with wind nearly astern. Will have to decide if it can stay up overnight.
The excitement has overtaken other considerations- I was contemplating the seaweed clumps which marches along with the east-west current in lines like legion of soldiers tramping to war. The lines are orderly and spaced about 20-30 metres apart. Sometimes 6 abreast and sometimes a ragged one or two every few yards. They prevent fishing as we immediately pick up a clump which then acts as a drogue. Perhaps our marine biologists Mary and Oliver can research the effect and report back. I will send a picture.
