With the lightest of winds at times, we sailed 233nm to Essaouira arriving in daylight after two nights at sea.   which was a real blessing as the entrance to the harbour was a tad more exciting than we had anticipated!   The Atlantic swell had built up since leaving Rabat and we found ourselves surfing into the bay at 10 knots and then performing a hand brake turn to port in order to get into the actual harbour.    The harbour was really full and the only place we could find to stay was rafted alongside a large catamaran – Lipari.   We did secure ourselves but after a very short period we decided that we had to leave.    The surges from the swell were really pronounced and we were worried for Lipari’s safety as well as our own, especially as Thursday is supposed to be the worst day for swell.  So, regretfully we left Essaouira and headed for Agadir.
