Hi Everyone,
Surprise, surprise the Generator has a leak, so that was the first job,
(no rest for the wicked) they keep finding more faults, I think it will be
rebuilt by the time we get back, as it seems to
be an on going saga!
We went to the island opposite it is uninhabited, but has picnic & a BBQ,
you collect Coconut husks & palms to light it and there are 2 fresh water
butts and eco toilets.
so set up for camping, but I don't think I would like to sleep there as
there is scurrying in the bushes, also dad/Alan had a giant centipede run
up his leg, and there are giant Hermit Crabs,
we had a BBQ over there and when it gets dark hundreds of them walk down
to the beach.
We have been to the other islands,Home island. a Muslim island, they all
go around in golf carts, bur don't seem to work, if you want any thing you
have to go really early or the sop is closed, to day we were looking for
eggs we were told to go to the hard ware store and tell them to ring the
lady at No 55 and she well bring them tomorrow, (its an hours dingy ride,
quite a trek)
The other West Island, is Australian, like chalk & cheese, there doesn't
seem to be anyone about, but there is an Airport, and its all systems go
when the plane comes in.
There is 1 called prison island, were prisoners go, but only one at a
time, and the rest of the islands are no people.
Dad/Alan was up at 6am to go ashore to get fuel in the cans, it took 3
runs and have to go back on Wednesday, it was £l.76 a litre and we had to
get 200, and brought the same in Darwin,
we are not getting the predicted winds we had hoped for, so it is getting
expensive.
I did washing on deck, with buckets of sea water, and had to mind the 5
sharks that where circling about, then had to get in the dingy, walk
though the woods to the water tank to rinse it out, then back in the
dingy, and hang it up, and to think I have a nice washing machine at home!
Ha!Ha!
We did get a short snorkel late yesterday, & hopefully we will get one
tomorrow afternoon! I will take my camera and hopefully get a picture of a
shark, the customs man, say they are like mongrel dogs
and are harmless, hopefully.
Hopefully all the jobs will be done and we will leave for Rodrigues on
Friday, another 2,000 miles!
Hope all is well, Lots of Love Mum & Dad - Margaret & Alan xxxxxxxxxxxx
