The ARC’s schedule is very tight and they really do not allow more time to be spent in the stopover places. So after just a couple of nights in Terceira it was time to sail on to the next scheduled stop in our itinerary, the island of São Miguel, some 90 miles distant. Because of the distance it was expected that this would be an overnight sail, so at around 7:00pm we slipped from our very tight berth in Angra do Heroismo, raised sails and headed towards São Miguel.

It turned out to be a very fast sail. At first we used the cruising chute but the wind soon became a bit too strong for this sail, so we completed the journey under full main and jib, at times sailing in excess of 8 knots. The seas were flat as well so it really was an excellent sail.

We were directed to a berth in the new marina in the port at Ponta Delgado, and were finally settled down and starting to cook a bacon breakfast by around 8:30am Wednesday morning.
