We continued to sail very slowly most of yesterday afternoon. The wind was teasing us; at times strong enough to sail by but never from an angle that would allow us to make good progress towards Faial.

However by late afternoon things started to change. The wind backed a little and slowly increased. We were soon sailing under full main and cruising chute making 6 or 7 knots. This continued all through the night with the boat making good speed in very flat seas.

Tuesday morning was grey and there was some light rain but sailing conditions were still very good. By midday the sun had come out, the wind had increased a little and we are currently bowling along at times exceeding 10 knots. Truly excellent sailing!
