We had stayed in Providenciales for two weeks and had really enjoyed our time there.  We managed to meet up with many old friends and would like to have stayed considerably longer. But it was clear that if we were to get up to the USA before the hurricane season starts in June, then we would have to be making tracks northwards very soon.

We had to wait for high tide to ensure that we had enough water to safely exit the marina so on Sunday, at around 2pm, we slipped our berth in Turtle Cove Marina and Joseph in the marina’s pilot boat carefully led us through the intricate channel that leads from the marina back to the cut in the barrier reef that surrounds Providenciales.

We sailed around the north western point of the island to a place called Malcolm Roads, where there were a number of mooring buoys that had been laid for the dive boats that operate in the area. We tied to one of these buoys and spent a peaceful (if a little rolly) night with a view to making an early start on Monday morning sailing to our next destination, the island of Mayaguana in The Bahamas.
