Transat Day 21

Nothing of note happened today.  I am surprised that I am still writing this after 3 weeks.  I will be even more surprised if there is anyone still reading it.  3 weeks is a long time at sea and the days are merging somewhat. 

I turned the boat into a bit of an oven yesterday by cooking the last of the bacon butties for breakfast, then a pizza for lunch in a vain attempt to start using up some of the supplies.  We still have half a ton of cheese to get through.  Funnily enough, it isn’t very appetizing when it is 35 degrees C in the boat.

Thought I would use this opportunity to publicise a website – www.degosdisease.com – which my mother, Judith Calder, has put together to raise the profile, and bring together sufferers from, this rare and normally fatal disease.  It attacks indiscriminately, babies and old people, male, female across all cultures and geographies.  Little is known about the disease, a fact which is extremely distressing for those who are diagnosed with it.  Mum has suffered from the disease for a number of years now and whilst she has suffered immense pain, she is one of the rare few for whom it has not proved fatal.

Mum has been campaigning to raise awareness and also to raise funds for research into the disease and has already successfully organized a couple of conferences to bring together doctors & consultants to share their limited knowledge.  All I want to do is to help raise awareness of the disease in both generally and within the medical profession, and I know that a lot of people are reading this blog.  Of course, you are welcome to donate money through the site but I didn’t intend this to be an indiscriminate charity plea.
