We had a windy ride to Bora Bora from Tahaa. After entering the pass, we crossed the lagoon and headed towards Vaitape, the main town. We picked up a free mooring a short distance from the town centre. It took a couple of goes with the wind gusting 20-25kn but we were soon settled comfortably. It has been windy most of the time we have been here.

Bora Bora is touted as the Pearl of the Pacific. We don't really think that it is any more spectacular than the other Society Islands. Having said that, it looks superb in aerial photographs. It has many motus (coral islands) around the outer edge of the lagoon and there are exclusive resorts on these where the rich and famous can stay, away from the gaze of us lesser mortals.

Boats are hauled out of the water by hand, using the large wheels. Most small boats are kept in this way throughout French Polynesia.
