After slipping Kenny’s mooring ball at South Shore Yacht Club, we made our way to the nearby fuel dock to fill up with diesel and water.  As this whole process took over an hour our we didn’t end up leaving Boston until 0930. As a consequence of the weather being murky and misty, we had little wind to speak of, so we motored to our next port of call, Salem, 23nm from Boston.

Upon entering Salem harbour, we couldn’t find anywhere suitable to anchor, so we picked up a mooring ball ($45 per night), which included a free boat taxi ride to and from the town.

Salem is internationally recognised due to the tragic events of the Salem Witch trials of 1692.  The social hysteria that led to executions of 20 innocent men and women and the imprisonment of more than 150 men, women and children have drawn thousands of visitors to Salem and we had been advised it was well worth the visit.

The whole city is ‘witch mad’, including the police cars, which has an emblem on the car door!
