Owl Update Friday 8 Sept

Mixed emotions aboard the Owl today. We've finally got sight of the Spanish coast and are about 3 hours away now from La Coruna.

We finally came off the continental shelf and registered a depth on our instrument. We've had lovely light rolling seas, a gentle breeze and the sun straining to come through the low cloud base. Sadly no sighting of dolphins today, but we saw a small shark fighting a fish, and there are lots of sea birds flying around us.

Today's chefs were Jaimie and Nigel who cooked up a pasta feast, with fresh melon left over from Douardenez for dessert. We're now looking forward to having a slap up meal and lots of red wine in a nice restaurant in La Coruna some time later tonight.

This evening we'll say a sad goodbye to Jamie, Nigel, Simon and Steve, who'll be attempting to reach Lisbon before us, by road, in order to catch their flights back to the UK from Lisbon. The Owl will miss their humour, their kindness and their company.

We'll be welcoming Nick on board later tonight as the Owl prepares to continue South towards her final destination of Gran Canaria via Cascais.

Hasta la vista
