New weather data just arrived that makes it clear that we are not going to make any significant progress for the next day and a half to two days, and that the winds will be very light thereafter as well. As it is already Tuesday afternoon and we have been underway for 4 days Ed and Richard have made the decision to retire from the race. We have now spent a day bobbing around the shipping lanes and it doesn't seem likely that this will change tomorrow. That will mean that we still have the thick end of six hundred miles to go in forecast winds of Force 1 and 2. To head off across Biscay now would mean having the boat prepared and stocked for another week at sea, and we're not.

The engine is on and we are heading East to France, probably to Camaret or Morgat where, afer a quick beer the boat will head south under motor loaded with diesel and extra supplies, probably stopping at La Coruna.

Everyone is disappointed to retire, but most of the crew have to be back at work on Monday, and that would be difficult to guarantee if we headed on south now (and we haven't noved more than a couple of miles in twelve hours).

We should be back in phone range in a few hours...
