We have spent the last few days getting the boat ready to leave whilst we return to the UK for two weeks. Nick has been arranging with the boatyard about what they will do whilst we are gone, and I have been cleaning and washing and packing everything away, including one of the sails!

Yesterday we collected a hire car and drove the 300 miles south to Fort Lauderdale where our Dreamliner was waiting to take us away at 23.00. It rained most of the way.

We couldn’t resist a stop at Ron Jons Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach as we had been passing billboards on the highway for 100 miles.  It was an extraordinary place, open 24hrs every day of the year. I did have to find an internet photo as the grey drizzle didn’t do it justice – does acclimatise us to the weather waiting for us at home though!

The Dreamliner was excellent, although Nick having to stretch his knee into my space made it fairly uncomfortable for us both. It was much quieter though, with better quality in flight entertainment and only took 7.5 hrs. Not to mention 20% less fuel.

Claudia collected us from the airport but had to go straight back to work. We went straight to the hospital and got the knee x-rayed – no fracture – so that is a relief.  The NHS is a fantastic thing which we always appreciate but perhaps a little more so after a trip to the US.

We have a busy itinerary whilst here, visiting family, friends, doctors, dentists and passport offices before returning to Florida on 28 November. Enjoy your November too.
