We have spent the last couple of days doing two things. Firstly, checking with the boatyard about the repairs that need to be done after our encounter with buoy in Cape Cod. We also need their quote for our insurance company before we can proceed. Secondly, we have been wrestling with the anchorage here. We are in a river/creek and the current is very strong when the tide changes. This means the boat changes direction too and can pirouette around the anchor and drag. We put out a second anchor to minimise the problem as it has also been very windy here today, compounding the problem. (A Bahamian moor for those boaties amongst you!). Then, the coastguard came and asked to move,  and the anchors had got twisted……..took about 3 hours and much cunning to get sorted and reset the anchor. The storm has passed now and all is well - not like living in a house though!

Fact of the day: The ‘Outer Banks’ of this part of North Carolina are home to a population of feral horses that have lived wild here for centuries. Horses were reintroduced to North America by European explorers and settlers but it is not known exactly how they came to live here. DNA analysis shows they have some Spanish ancestry. There is a sophisticated management and research program that allows these herds to remain ‘wild’. It includes removal of and contraception for selected individuals in order to maintain a healthy population. It is also interesting to read about the advice given for visiting the islands – they are potentially dangerous!
