Today we made it out of Chesapeake Bay! We passed through the Bay Bridge-Tunnel at about 15.00 in the same grey drizzly weather that we entered in last year. Actually it is a bridge-tunnel-bridge-tunnel-bridge – spanning 23 miles and opened in 1964, replacing the ferry service that connected the mainland to Cape Charles at the south end of the East Shore. It is one of only 10 such bridge-tunnel systems in the world – three of which are located in this part of Virginia.

Once through we were greeted by many dolphins, welcoming us back into the Atlantic.
