Woken up this morning by a visitor who we suspect has learned that boats often have food lying around. It is a Fisher Martin that apparently eats birds and small mammals – not fish. It also lives in the forest but had no trouble leaping off the boat and swimming away when it didn’t find anything to eat here.

We cycled around Portland this morning intending to visit an art museum that Bici recommended. We got distracted by a sale at one of the chandleries here and spent much time and money there instead.  We now have new fire extinguishers, emergency lights, flares, orange smoke thingies and whistles – all of which were nearing their expiry dates. Nick also found a pair of Wellington boots that do not require any expletives to get on or off – and a fine lobster pot chair to try them on in.

After stocking up at a real supermarket, we set off much later than planned. We decided to only go 15 miles and stay the night at Metinic Island. There were several significant rain squalls enroute, with associated poor visibility, and we snarled the starboard engine on something that made it stop.  Whilst deciding how to tackle getting into the bay to anchor, someone from the island called us on the radio and offered to help us pick up one of their mooring buoys. It was quite tricky, even with them towing us in with their dinghy – but successful. The sun set over their lobster boats.
