This evening we went to the theatre. An original play by one of the islanders who is currently studying marine history at Boston. It was performed at the very fine community theatre, part of the community centre in the village. The play was called ‘The House of Broken Ships’ and was a tale of life on the island at the beginning of the 19th century with a mad reclusive woman who lived in one of the large summer houses providing the dramatic storyline.  All the actors were islanders and it definitely provided some insight into how it feels to live here – and their perspective on the people ‘from away’.

Interesting lobster fact gleaned from the show: the pots have 2 compartments. The kitchen – where the bait of old rotting fish is placed and the parlour – where they end up when trying to escape the kitchen.
