Today we went out into Penobscott Bay with Jethro, Olivia, Betsy  and Jethro's brother Ethan and wife Eva. We went to Bartlett Bay for lunch in the sunshine. On the return trip the winds picked up and we sailed alongside one of the schooners that have worked in the bay for over 100 years. They now carry tourists rather then cargo between the many islands. Benj is standing next to the wind generator pole that still waits for its wind generator. We have all the parts, just not had the time yet....
Northaven used to be famous for its sheep farming and as a result, all the trees were removed for their grazing. Apparently the farmers waited until one of the infrequent winds from the NE, slaughtered the lambs quickly and sent them off to Boston and New York by boat. their lamb was considered the best quality in the whole of the country. The sheep industry has gone now and the trees are  being allowed to grow back. Those within 50 yards of the water are no longer allowed to be cut down, as they protect against soil erosion. I was surprised at the high percentage of coniferous trees and how much it looks like Canada - foolish as we are only 100 miles away.
